"If you don't come visit we'll come find you!!"

After the long week of work aka March Break, I am back at Jesse Ketchum for my second last week! It is actually really sad because this week as been freaking awesome! I am really starting to create some strong friendships with many of the students in all my classes!!

Not to mention, it has been great to have such a supportive AT! He has been great and has been providing me with great insight and plentiful resources! One thing I do wish I got to do was Co-teach because essentially all three of the teacher candidates here have been doing the same things for language. But that didn't stop us!! It feels really great to have a support system between the TC's that I am working with. Sharing ideas and resources has also been a great help and for that I am greatful! Not to mention the feasts at lunch, pft no one could top the all you can eat buffet me and Mack seem to have happen every day!! hahaha

Also, this week co-ed volleyball has happened and it is great to be helping out with that! I feel that with this extra activity, it has helped me to further build stronger friendships...

It is sad to hear responses like "You better come visit us or else we will come find you" or "Miss D do you HAVE to leave", really makes you feel great about being there because you know that you have made an impact on these kids!!!

That's all for now, one more week to go!!

Miss D

  1. That's cool that you are working on similar things to the other ATs at your school. My first week of my unit plan went well (I think) and now I have to finally figure out my lesson plans that for what I'll be doing on Monday and Tuesday. Co-teaching would probably be a fun thing to try and I also wish I had had an opportunity to try it. Good luck with your last week of practicum :)

  4. Hi Miss, D,

It is great to read that you really got a lot out of your practicum and were able to connect with the students. It is nice to feel appreciated and know that you made a difference as a teacher.

I felt the same way to towards the end of my practicum when the kids found out I would be leaving. I found out that some of the students I thought I did not really have the best opportunity to connect with really did appreciate me and enjoyed having me.

Thank you for sharing your experiences.

  5. Hi Melissa,

I know how it feels when the kids say that they do not want us to leave. It means that we have made an impact and have created strong bonds. I felt so sad leaving my classroom. One student that I felt would not care about me leaving, actually gave me the best present I could ever receive- a wristband that says "simply the best". He was crying that I was leaving and his eyes were red. I was happy to have a classroom like this and loooking forward to meeting them again.

    See you in class,

    Khushbu

  6. Hi Melissa,
I felt sad and happy each time the students said those similar words. I guess that's what "teachers" are... hmm.. and parents too. We teach them as best as we can, and we leave hoping that they can use whatever they learned somewhat in their future.
    See you soon,
    Winzie

  7. I hear you! My kids pelted me with those same words from about the middle of the 3rd week when they realized my time there was coming to an end. It's probably the coolest thing I've felt this year. Makes you feel like you did something right! They were weary of my responses when I promised to come back...so I made my last week's work load a little bit lighter....I didn't finish marking their Geography tests and one language assignment. I think it actually relaxed them knowing that I HAD to come back. It was also a way to make sure I would have to find the time to return. Sounds like you did a great job! Good work kiddo!
